Meet Paintology

Rachel Downs has been a full-time free-lance artist since 2005. Paint has always been her favorite medium, and for the past 20 years she has created custom finishes on almost any surface you can imagine with her fabulous team of painters. Her team has also created over 120 backdrops and 50+ murals in the area. In addition, Rachel has taught countless workshops in scenic art and faux finishing throughout the country. One of PAINTology’s main goals is to make a connection with our clients and develop creative solutions that tell their story, whether it’s a homeowner, a business, or a theatre production.

Rachel is the proud wife of Michael Downs, the owner/operator of Downsart Inc, and the proud mom of three awesome and opinionated kids. She is a baker, a singer, a dog lover, a hugger, and a very competitive board game player.

Kyla Mansfield (She/her) has been painting, collaborating, and creating in Wichita for over ten years in professional theatres, amusement parks, haunted houses, and faux finishing!

Starting full time in 2018 at PAINTology she has had the privilege of working with and learning from Rachel in the creative environment she cultivates, getting to work on projects that scale from a kitchen cabinet door touch up to a 70' expanding backdrop. There is never a dull moment.

Erynn is a Florida native who has spent the past ten years integrating into Wichita. She studied Digital Marketing at WSU Tech and has since become a full Wichitan implant. When not with Paintology, you might find her in a hardware store or perusing an estate sale, adding to her borderline excessive (but totally justified) collection of gadgets and gizmos.

With mixed experience in home renovation, digital marketing, and more recently theatre; Erynn loves bringing joy through making cool things. At the top of her list of favorite things she’s ever made are two sweet and adorable mini jokesters, granting her the title of Boy Mom. As the newest addition to the team, she feels lucky to be working side by side with these talented ladies.

Lauren (she/they), a Kansas native, fell in love with creative hands-on endeavors as a child painting ceramics with her grandmother, and has been finding ways to keep her hands busy ever since. Lauren started as a scenic artist in college in the theatre department, added interior finishing to the resume for a few years, before moving to the east coast to work in film and television. She returned to Wichita in 2024 where she was thrilled to officially rejoin Rachel’s new thriving business in the form of PAINTology.

Lauren can often be found playing with her niece and nephew, walking the dog, or being a nerd about board games and rpgs. She is a proud member of United Scenic Artists 829, loves painting murals designed by her wife Chelsey, and her favorite hobby is finding a new hobby.
